Art
Fundamentals: In Fundamentals, students work with all medias: wet, dry, 3D, 2D; you name it we use it. Students learn a variety of styles and techniques, giving them the opportunity to truly gain an appreciation for the arts.
Drawing: In Drawing, we work extensively with dry media. Students are taught from the ground up in Drawing 1, starting with the basics such as value, line, color, etc. In Drawing 2, they are given a large amount of independence to let them have the feeling of being a professional artist, making their own decisions about what to create and what dry media to use in creating the work.
Sculpture: In Sculpture, we use anything and everything to create unique 3D artworks. Students use paper, cardboard, paper mache, pantyhose and wire, aluminum pop cans, clay, reed, and any other random ideas we get throughout the semester. Students are given a very open idea format in what to create, this allows the pieces to be created with a lot more passion, than the students creating work of things they don’t care for.
Shows & Competitions: We work with a handful of competitions and shows every year. We have had nearly 100 students published in the national art publication Celebrating Art with students in the top ten in our nation as well. Our students are highly competitive in the Cherokee county art show every year as well, taking home best in show 3 years in a row, as well as many other places and honorable mentions. Our seniors have an annual art show hosted by NSU’s College of Education near the end of April every year. The show is judged by NSU Fine Art professors.
