Band takes competitions by storm

From the first sight of the sun, the silhouette of the Orange Express was seen. All looking tired yet determined to perfect every note, step and toss. Their hard work and dedication paid off the minute they stepped onto a field and played their hearts out.

“Playing the half-time show makes me feel proud, powerful and achieved because I spent so much time in practice while maintaining good grades and a healthy social life,” said Tanner Mitts, 12.

Every year they moved to a different beat, this year it was to the emotional feeling of being pushed through life. This was a relatable theme especially for high school students. The band members all had unique reactions to their theme, “Push.”

“The theme was different, but I felt like it could be a good turnout,” said Danny Strickland, 9.

All year they took on bands from all around in fierce competitions. To even the band’s surprise, they placed 7th in finals out of 22 total teams, as well as 12 finalist teams in the OBA competition in Mustang, OK.

“First, we had to go to warm-ups. I didn’t expect it, but when they announced finals. Everyone started flipping out and crying. Then we had to perform,” said Kasi Bowen, 10.

The Orange Express dedicated themselves to their music and were inspired to march forward with the music that they start and end with throughout the year.
